Lansdowne Centre’s Free Gardening Workshops Cultivate Community and Sustainability

Richmond’s Lansdowne Centre is once again hosting free weekly gardening workshops, now in their fifth year. The workshops, organized by Victory Gardens, are held in the mall’s southeast parking lot adjacent to T&T Supermarket every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. until September 4. People of all ages and gardening skill levels are welcome to participate and gain insights into home gardening techniques and seasonal planting tips.

The food garden at Lansdowne Centre has been a source of pride, having donated nearly 3,000 pounds of fresh produce to local organizations combating food insecurity since 2021. The crops cultivated in the garden include a variety of vegetables such as beets, carrots, fennel, broccoli, and potatoes. This year, the initiative at the mall is broadening its support to include the Meals on Wheels program while continuing to contribute to the Richmond Food Bank Society.

In addition to the food donations, the mall offers free weekly workshops at the Food Garden to educate those interested in growing their own vegetables at home, whether in a backyard, on a patio, or balcony.
